The month of April is almost over but tech news that sounds a lot like April Fools’ day leftovers are still pouring in; The Amazon Echo Look in particular is one such device. The Echo Look is what Amazon calls a “Style Assistant” device. Unlike the regular echo which just accepts voice command, the Echo Look is equipped with a depth-sensing hands-free camera and LED lights as well so it can asses ones look and wardrobe properly, taking full-length photos and smartly able to blur the background automatically so only the person is in focus. It has a built-in speaker so users can use it to listen to a weather forecast, news or set alarms, and it also has a microphone array at the top so the user can issue commands. Some users concerned with being spied on can disable the microphone and camera via a mute button on the side of it. It can be made to stand on a table top or it can be mounted on the wall.
It has all the other features of the regular Echo device but the Echo Look has a built-in “Style Check” feature which uses advanced machine learning algorithms and advice from fashion specialists. Users can submit two photos for a second opinion on what look is better, and Echo Look will respond with a recommendation based on fit, color, styling and current trends. Since it is a machine learning algorithm fed by style experts and learning from a community of users, the “Style Check” feature just gets better over time.
It is available for $200 but is currently limited by invite only to US customers and invites will be granted on a rolling basis. To request an invitation, visit: http://amzn.to/2p3Ztkw
