Amazon Faces Lawsuit For Collecting Childrens Data

Amazon may be facing a government lawsuit regarding the collection of data on children with its Alexa-powered smart speakers.
Amazon Collecting Childrens Data?
In a report by Bloomberg it is said that the FTC is investigating Amazon on a complaint that Amazon’s “Alexa-powered speakers are collecting information about children under the age of 13 without parental consent.” It is also said that Alexa did not feature a privacy policy for its activities that are designed for kids. As soon as next month the Justice Department could file a lawsuit against the company.
The penalties that would be inflicted on Amazon aren’t clear but Amazon claims its products were in compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) which could come with hefty fines if found to be in breach of COPPA.

We all know that big companies, especially Amazon, are collecting our data so there’s a good chance children aren’t safe from Bezo’s slimy hands. I’d be naive to hope this isn’t true that they are collecting data so I just hope the fine is notable considering how huge of a company Amazon is, a few million would be nothing to them.
