Many of us are looking forward to the days when retailers such as Amazon will be able to deliver products quickly via drones or self-driving vehicles, and even though there’s some progress being made on that front, we still have quite a bit of time ahead of us before this will become a reality on a large scale. Until then, however, Amazon plans to use its own cargo planes to get the job done, and one such a plane is Amazon One, which was unveiled during the SeaFair Air Show that recently took place in Seattle. We’re talking about a mighty Boeing 767-300 that is operated by Atlas Air – a known provider of air cargo services for Amazon.
According to the company’s senior vice president of worldwide operations, Dave Clarke, Amazon plans to lease 40 planes in total over the next two years from Atlas Air and ATSG as part of its Prime Air cargo operations. This endeavor hopes to speed up deliveries, which makes sense as customers are becoming more and more demanding each year. The company has also taken several other measures to improve its delivery times, such as expanding its fleet by 4,000 trailers, and launching the Flex app, which allows vetted freelance drivers to make deliveries using their own vehicles.
