Despite it being a difficult time for some companies, one which has seen a continued rise is Amazon. Despite this, however, things are not looking too good for employees of the company.
In a report via the BBC, despite growing profits, Amazon is planning on axing hundreds of jobs.
When it comes to job cuts, it’s usually when a company is underperforming. Nothing, however, could be further from the truth with Amazon. If anything the company seems to be expanding into whole new areas and at a rate that shows nothing but promise for the future.
Despite this, however, there were alarm bells that economisation was being considered. This was noted only in recent weeks when a patent to monitor warehouse staff was revealed.
While jobs are set to be cut, however, it would seem that this is more a case of major restructuring rather than anything else.
Over the years Amazon has acquired many companies which have no longer become viable. It is therefore thought that many such cuts will take place in these sectors. One such example is when they purchased Diapers.com, an acquisition that cost around $500 which no longer technically exists.
In regards to the cuts, Amazon has said that it expected: “small reductions in a couple of places and aggressive hiring in many others”.
Firstly, some good news is that the cuts are not thought to largely affect UK or European bases of operation. Sadly, for our American readers, it seems that the changes will largely be applied stateside. Some goods news for them, however, is that they are looking, where possible, to offer new roles and opportunities.
In truth, at present, the exact nature of the cuts is unknown, the bottom line is, however, that they have come a little out of the blue and for a company doing so well, are certainly more than a little surprising.
