Whenever buying anything off Amazon, I can’t help but notice just how hard they push for me to go for the Prime service. In fairness, I can certainly see the perks. The opportunity to get the vast majority of items they have for sale on a ‘next-day’ delivery is certainly very appealing. More so if you are a somewhat prolific user of the online retailer.
It does also, of course, give you access to a number of their other services, but in terms of sales, it seems that Prime is a hugely popular option. In a report via CNET, Amazon has reported that in the last year alone, over 2 billion items have been purchased using the ‘next-day’ delivery option the premium package allows.
You might, at this point, be wondering what the most popular item for delivery was and, brace yourself, as this certainly surprised me. It was bananas. Yes, the yellow things you eat! In terms of speedy delivery, one NES Classic purchaser in America found the popular retro console delivered to his door within 9 minutes of the purchase being made.
Now, of course, Amazon hasn’t revealed this just to amaze us with the figures. This is, essentially, a sales pitch in disguise for their Amazon Prime Service. With figures such as this though, can you really blame them? It may, however, just be enough to tempt more people into making the switch to their premium service. Between the delivery speed, music, films and much more, you do get a lot for it!
