Early in the month, we saw a new driver released from AMD. Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.5.1 didn’t provide us with many fixes, mainly adding support for Forza 6:Apex. Given the quick releases from AMD over the past several months, we expected a driver with more substantial changes to drop soon. We got that today in the form of release 16.5.2, the latest hotfix to the Radeon drivers.
One of the concerns we had from previous releases was the number of issues with Radeon Settings. While AMD had addressed some of those in 16.4.2, many still remained. It looks like AMD has listened as the new releases targets a whole slew of Radeon Settings problems. These range from stopping Radeon Settings from suggesting an older driver to simple things like making sure restoring to factory default and toggle buttons actually work.
Of course, the headline feature is support for DOOM, a title I am highly anticipating and a new Crossfire profile for Battleborn. AMD has also updated the number of known issues, a good sign that they are actively working on fixes. Given the quick pace for driver releases, I expect we may see one dropping near the end of month, perhaps with Polaris support as well.
