AMD 17.2.1 Beta Drivers Ready for Sniper Elite 4 and For Honor

Just last week, AMD updated their drivers with the Crimson ReLive 17.1.2 release. Following quickly on its heels, the company has now released its first update for February, the 17.2.1 release. As expected given the long period since 17.1.2, we are getting quite a sizable update with numerous fixes.

First up we have support added for Sniper Elite 4 and For Honor, coming just in time for the title’s launch. Compared to the unoptimized drivers, AMD is claiming gains of 4% and 5% for the RX 480 for each game respectively. Multi-GPU profiles have also been added for DX11 and DX12 which is great to have on launch day.

For fixed issues, we have several important ones finally being addressed. FreeSync now has fewer issues when being used fullscreen which is great. GCN cards playing H.264 video are also no longer experiencing corruption when fast forwarding or seeking. Given how pervasive H.264 content is, this is fix is much appreciated. Another big issue that has been addressed is low memory clocks for R9 380 series cards coming out of lower power states. Some ReLive issues introduced with 16.2.2 have also been addressed.

In terms of known issues, there isn’t much that is new. The main ones are flickering with For Honor when 4x GPUs are used which is a rare configuration and compatibility issue with FreeSync for Sniper Elite 4. I’m suspecting we’ll get fixes for those soon but AMD didn’t have time before the game’s launch to add the fixes in. You can find the full release notes and the links for the various downloads here.
