AMD 4700S CPU Listed by Chinese Manufacturers

Officially speaking, there is no AMD 4700S processor. There is nothing confirmed about it on their website and, to the best of my knowledge, I’ve never even encountered a rumour of such a chip existing. – Following a report via Videocardz, however, a Chinese retailer seemingly has several of them available to purchase and, overall, they don’t look too shabby!

AMD 4700S Processor

Listed as an ITX compatible solution, the AMD 4700S is certainly an unusual creature. Firstly, it comes pre-attached to the motherboard which, in itself, doesn’t feature any memory slots. It does, instead, come with 16GB of DDR5 memory surrounding the processor itself. More so, this apparently does not include the ‘Ryzen‘ branding suggesting that this was never part or intended for any sort of official commercial desktop usage.

In regards to the motherboard though, this itself is listed as an “AMD Cardinal” and, overall, does appear to be something approaching an APU setup.

So, with this in mind, if this is indeed an actual AMD product (which it certainly does appear to be) what are we looking at here? Well, firstly, don’t be fooled by the marketing images above and below. Yes, they look official, but we’re 99% certain that they are intentionally made to look that way.

The best conclusion that the community has been able to draw so far is that these are some kind of rejected or prototype designs for the Xbox Series X/S. Exactly how they ended up in someone’s hands who was than available to sell them online, however, is a total mystery!

Performance

Throwing in some benchmark results (which again should be taken with a grain of salt), if accurate, it would suggest that the AMD 4700S is certainly pretty decent at its task. We should note though that this model does not come with any sort of graphics adaptor (integrated or PCI-e slot on the motherboard) and, as such, an external video card would be necessary to make this, you know, actually viable.

What Do We Think?

Aside from the Xbox Series X/S theory, the only other prevailing idea is that this has been repurposed or reused from a yet unknown product. The latter is, quite frankly, a far more likely alternative as, while certainly similar, there are enough differences to suggest that this has never even been remotely close to Microsoft’s HQ.

In something of a curious technological appearance, however, this definitely gives that box a firm tick!
