On May 10th, AMD is expected to announce the general release of its newly revised Radeon 6000 graphics cards. With models including the 6650 XT, 6750 XT, and 6950 XT, a lot of the focus has unsurprisingly been placed on the latter (and presumably) new flagship model, following a report via Videocardz, however, a benchmark result, reportedly taken from the 6750 XT has appeared online. – And, based on what we can see here, it’s not looking too overly promising.
Put simply, the gains apparently being offered on the 6750 XT, when compared to the current 6700 XT, would appear to be minimal at best!
Now before we go any further, and as you might expect, there are more than a few question marks surrounding this benchmarking result. Firstly, there is absolutely nothing to confirm exactly what kind of Radeon 6750 XT has been used here. We presume an AMD-own reference model, but it’s not specific (and nor indeed to confirm its reportedly new and faster 18GBps memory). – Additionally, with the testing conducted on ‘GFXBench’, we’re once again in a moderately frustrating position that this isn’t a widely used or particularly popular benchmarking tool.
So, in other words, take what comes next with a pinch of salt.
If these results are accurate, however, then this would seem to suggest that, for this particular test at least, the upcoming 6750 XT only outperforms the 6700 XT by a 2% margin!
While this might initially sound underwhelming, there are a number of factors that should be considered before jumping to any kind of firm conclusion. Firstly, while possible that this is a legitimate Radeon 6750 XT retail sample (rather than an engineering version) it’s exceptionally doubtful that this testing has been conducted on ‘good’ drivers. They’re probably on beta, and, as such, clearly could see a huge rise in performance when the official release day drivers drop. Additionally, and as noted above, ‘GFXBench’ is not a great comparative tool.
If this result is accurate, however, then it may perhaps make many people question why AMD has bothered with this revision at all! – Come May 10th though, we’ll find out for sure!
(You can check out the results for yourself via the link here).
