From all the rumours flying around, the latest indication is that the Polaris lineup will be revealed sometime in late May, just before Computex. The Macau, China event may be limited to select members of the press though, meaning the public might not get any concrete information till Computex. To tide us through, AMD is hosting an architecture deep dive event on May 18th at 9am Central Time.
The most interesting speaker is David Nalasco, Sr. Technology Manager at Radeon Technologies Group. The two key agenda items are the “Inside look at Polaris” and the Q&A session. I suspect that we may not see the lineup being revealed at this event. However, I do suspect we may get some more details about the Polaris architecture and GCN 4.0. Hopefully, we will be able to glean some information about the performance of Polaris and GCN 4.0 relative to current chips based on any architecture details they reveal.
Interestingly, the event is just 1 day after the rumoured NDA deadline for the GTX 1080 reviews. This may be AMD’s way to strike back by building up their own presence and hopefully convince some potential GTX 1080 buyers to hold off. The event also sets the stage for Polaris to launch later in the month. The big bummer is that the event is only 30mins but they should be very fruitful.
