Part of AMD’s new TrueAudio implementation includes increasing the location accuracy of the audio experience. By working with AstoundSurround AMD is trying to create pin point accurate audio that takes 24 channel audio and down-mixes that to 7.1 (think of it like graphical down-sampling).

What AstoundSurround offer AMD in the audio space is the ability to create a 3D spatial audio implementation.

AstoundSurround claim the audio technology is based on 25 years of research of the human brain. The AstoundSurround True3D audio DSP algorithms offer support for mono in stereo out, stereo in stereo out and multi-channel in stereo out technologies.

The end result should be a better gaming audio experience based on locational audio with “more dimensions”. Some may liken this to the new ASUS ROG “Sonic Radar” technology except there’s no need for a visual representation because the audio is already accurate. The new combination of advanced audio features should be available to game developers with simple plugin integration.
