In addition to producing a wide range of gaming-focused graphics solutions, AMD also has a foothold in the embedded market. The company’s embedded graphics cards are designed for rendering, digital signage and a host of other applications. Today, AMD unveiled the E9260 which is the successor to the E8870. This particular product offers up to 2.5 TFLOPS peak Single Precision performance, has 14 Compute Units and is equipped with 4GB of GDDR5 memory on a 128-bit interface. Additionally, the card has 4K HEVC Decode and Encode support and a total board power under 50W.
Interestingly, the E9260 will be available via a type-A MXM module, or adopt the traditional PCI-E standard. Please note, the PCI-E version sports 4 mini-DisplayPort 1.3 while the MXM unit has 5. On another note, the device takes advantage of the efficient 14nm FinFET manufacturing process which provides essential performance per watt benefits. As previously mentioned, the product is suitable for media content, digital signage, medical imaging via ultrasound scans and can be deployed in casinos to deliver a more spectacular experience. According to AMD, they’re working with partners to outfit gambling machines with the latest embedded graphics cards and this could lead to better on-screen graphics. Here we can see the memory size and performance improvement over time:
