AMD Brings Gaming Performance Boost to Ryzen CPUs with Windows 11 Update

AMD has released a branch prediction optimization update for Ryzen processors, aiming to enhance gaming performance on Windows 11. The update, available through Windows 11 23H2, applies to AMD Ryzen CPUs based on the Zen 3, Zen 4, and Zen 5 microarchitectures. Users can find this update under “Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 11 Version 23H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5041587)” in Windows Update.

Improved Performance Without Upgrading to Windows 11 24H2

AMD initially planned to roll out these optimizations in Windows 11 24H2, which some users were reluctant to adopt due to potential issues with new OS versions. However, AMD has backported these improvements to the more widely adopted Windows 11 23H2. This allows users to experience the same gaming performance enhancements without needing to upgrade their operating system. As stated by AMD, “We expect the performance uplift to be very similar between 24H2 and 23H2 with KB5041587 installed.”

Early performance tests have indicated significant improvements for Ryzen 9000 Zen 5 and Ryzen 7000 Zen 4 CPUs, with some games showing up to double-digit performance gains. However, results can vary depending on the game, with some titles showing only marginal improvements.

To get this update, users should navigate to Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional updates and look for KB5041587. After installing, a system restart is required to apply the changes.
