AMD brings Radeon DDR3 modules to market

Back in August AMD showed off initial pictures of their own brand DDR3 modules, which were very unexciting: simply basic DDR3 modules with an AMD sticker on. AMD has changed the design a fair bit since then and the modules now consist of black PCBs, black metal heat spreaders and full length AMD Radeon red stickers. Judging by the fact these modules are being shown in boxes tells us that AMD will be sending these to the shelves as an individually packaged AMD product not an OEM product.

AMD claims these modules will be totally stable with AMD platforms and consequently they do not come fitted with XMP profiling technology. Instead they use  high-spec JEDEC profiles and AMD Black Edition profiles to achieve high DRAM speeds. AMD memory modules are designed to work with AMD Overdrive software to allow fine-tuning of various memory parameters such as clock speeds, voltages, and timings. The modules also include other RAM technologies like high-speed data transfer based on 8n-prefetch pipelined architecture, Bi-directional differential data strobe (DQS and /DQS), DLL aligns DQ and DQS transitions with CK transitions, and Internal self-calibration.

These modules are courtesy of AMD teaming up with Patriot and Visiontek. Patriot is believed to be providing the modules whilst Visiontek will market and distribute them and could possibly even sub brand them.
