Earlier in the month, AMD released their Crimson ReLive 17.8.1 drivers. AMD followed up the beta release with a WHQL certified driver earlier this week. Despite the tight timeline, AMD is releasing another driver for the end of August. This week, we have the new AMD Crimson ReLive Edition 17.8.2 beta drivers.
The headline features are game support this time for a number of upcoming titles. F1 2017 gains support with a 4% performance boost. For PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, users can expect up to 18% performance boost. Last of all, the latest release supports Destiny 2 Beta. There are also a number of notable fixes, mostly related to Radeon RX Vega GPUs. Radeon WattMan will work properly with Vega and the corruption and blank/black display issues are fixed.
AMD Continues with Speedy Releases for Crimson ReLive
In terms of known issues, AMD still has some work to do. Due to the consistent introduction of new features, new bugs also keep popping up. One notable bug remaining is that GPU polling applications like Radeon WattMan no longer cause mouse stuttering. Other issues include problems with GPU scaling, media playback and sleep/hibernate.
With the fast pace that AMD is moving with their drivers, the company is keeping their commitment for driver updates. This is vastly improved over the situation in years past where updates sometimes took months. AMD’s quick release cadence means new games get support more quickly and issues are addressed in an ongoing manner. With any luck, the improved financial situation at AMD will mean even better drivers going forward.
