With Radeon RX 7900 series graphics cards set for release on December 13th, while this would clearly see the retail availability of AMD’s own reference models, the question of when custom designs from AIB partners would arrive has been a little more questionable. – Following a report via TechPowerUp, however, leak sources are claiming that although custom 7900 series GPUs will arrive in December, consumers shouldn’t expect them to hit retailers until quite late in the month.
In other words, for probably around a week to ten days, AMD’s own in-house designs will probably be all we’re initially going to have available to purchase.
Now, in fairness, we should note that we’re not being overly critical on this point as, in terms of aesthetics, AMD’s own reference design for the 7900 series looks absolutely fantastic. In fact, we expect that when AIB custom designs arrive, many may still view AMD’s original version as the most visually appealing. – From a more technical standpoint, however, what this really boils down to is the fact that in terms of overclocked designs from AIB partners such as MSI, PowerColor, ASUS, etc. (models which take the specifications beyond the ‘reference’ point) these will not hit retailers until, pretty much, the end part of December.
Given the excellent and notably low MSRP prices though, presuming that this does get reflected through retailers, we expect all versions of the AMD Radeon 7900 XT and 7900 XTX to be hugely popular with consumers. Hell, even I’ll admit that one of these is probably going to end up being my long-overdue upgrade, and would I settle for AMD’s own reference design? Absolutely!
