AMD Delays B840 and B850 Motherboards to Early 2025

AMD has postponed the launch of its budget-friendly B840 and B850 motherboard chipsets to early 2025. This news comes as a setback for those looking to pair these new chipsets with AMD’s latest Ryzen 9000 processors. Originally, these motherboards were expected to debut alongside AMD’s 800-series in late 2024, but only the high-end X870 and X870E models will now be released in September.

Impact on Budget-Conscious Consumers

The delay primarily affects consumers and builders who were planning to construct or upgrade systems using the Ryzen 9000 series with the new B800-series motherboards. Those eager to build their systems with these more affordable options will need to wait until next year. However, there is a silver lining—Ryzen 9000 processors are compatible with existing 600-series motherboards, provided that the necessary BIOS update is installed.

The staggered release strategy by AMD, first hinted at by the company, means that high-end models will debut first, leaving budget-oriented options for later. According to ComputerBase, this decision has led to very few B850 and B840 motherboards being showcased at recent industry events, such as Gamescom 2024. AMD’s partners are likely holding off until CES 2025 to display these budget-friendly options.
