AMD Demo Systems and More at Ryzen Event at CES 2017

While there wasn’t a lot of information on display for what was here, we had a lot of fun at Bar AMD, where they setup a bunch of cool demo systems showing the latest and greatest AMD hardware, as well as a chance for us to have a few drinks, some snacks, and basically just mingle with the AMD team.

First up (above), their demo of HDR gaming and video. Of course, this isn’t something that a camera or your display will really capture, it’s certainly a thing that needs to be seen in person to believe.

This demo of Radeon Chill was pretty cool, no pun intended. The system on the left is burning through 200+ FPS in CS:GO, which is great for lag free gaming, but it’s also using more power! The system on the right is using Chill, so when you’re not moving the mouse it’ll drop to a steady 60fps, move the mouse again or run around, the frame rate unlocks and give you the higher frame rates. You get all the perks, with greatly reduced power usage.

The left system without Chill.

The right system with Chill while standing still.

And again while moving.

Other demo systems were showing off the range of performance improvements between old and new cards, although unfortunately the on-site information was very limited.

Finally, a bunch of cool test systems from AMD partner system builders, but much to our confusion, a few of them featured Nvidia GPUs. I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with that, but we can’t be certain they were all running AMD motherboards and CPUs either, but for AMD to have one place to show off all their best hardware, this was literally the time and place, so this whole display setup feels a little rushed to us.

An AMD hardware display wouldn’t be complete without their console efforts, and with AMD supplying hardware to both Xbox One and PlayStation 4, we were able to play the latest Forza Horizon 3 with HDR support, as well as play on PSVR.

So it's no wonder I write about tech and test the latest hardware while I enjoy my hobbies!
