AMD Drops AMD Link Remote Gaming Technology

AMD Link is an app designed by AMD which allowed users to stream their Windows desktop and games to mobile devices, TVs and other Windows PCs. Its a simple piece of software that I personally haven’t tried out but unfortunately AMD has decided that it is no longer worth maintaining.

AMD Cans AMD Link

AMD recently made a post on their support site under article number: PA-325 which concerned AMD Link and announced that it would be reaching end of life status. The reasoning behind this is that the software was launched when there were fewer alternative remote gaming options around and with many other options available, AMD simply doesn’t see it fit to compete with these options.

For users that game remotely with AMD Link, one important announcement is that AMD is ending support for the AMD Link software application with a future AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition™ driver release. We originally launched AMD Link at a time when there were few alternative remote gaming solutions for Radeon graphics users. Today, there are many options available for users to stream their PC content to other devices. AMD’s role is to enable and support developers, not compete with them. As such, we are ending support for AMD Link and focusing our resources on other core capabilities and features that benefit users. We will also continue to support developers with our SDKs such as the AMD Advanced Media Framework that allow them to enable streaming functionality within their solutions.

This is unfortunate though I don’t imagine many people will be majorly disappointed. I’ve never used it but speaking to a friend who did, the app apparently just wasn’t that great and was quite janky, especially so when compared to alternatives such as Steam Link. Support for AMD Link will be dropped in a future driver update though AMD haven’t given any specifics.
