AMD Fires Shots at the 4070 Ti Calling the 7900 XT the ‘Fastest GPU for Under $900’

The release of Nvidia’s 4070 Ti earlier this week has predominantly been met with mostly negative feedback from both media outlets and general consumers. It’s not that it’s a bad graphics card, far from it, but it just ultimately feels that for the performance it offers, it is just a bit too expensive to really warrant the purchase. – Rather ironically, however, it seems that following a report via Videocardz AMD may be choosing this opportunity to fire some shots at Nvidia with the release of new publication slides calling the 7900 XT the ‘fastest GPU for under $900’.

Put simply, it seems that AMD is squaring up for a battle over GPUs which, quite frankly, don’t really seem to really be capturing the attention of consumers all that much!

AMD Pits the 7900 XT Against the 4070 Ti!

So, in regards to AMD’s claim, is the 7900 XT better than the 4070 Ti? Well, in the majority of instances, yes. Our full comprehensive testing (video below) easily confirmed that the in the vast majority of benchmarks, the AMD 7900 XT outperformed the Nvidia 4070 Ti. – The only area in which things get a little more cloudy is when upscaling and ray tracing comes into the equation where, typically speaking, Nvidia takes advantage. Albeit, not exactly by a margin as huge as you might expect!

It is, however, hard to argue that AMD is wrong here. Between the 7900 XT and the 4070 Ti, the former does appear to represent notably better value for money and general gaming performance than the latter. With that being said though, I still don’t think people are going to care too much about these graphics cards.

The Problem…

The biggest predominant issue facing both the 7900 XT and 4070 Ti is pricing and comparative options. Why spend $900 on the 7900 XT when $100 (ish) more gets you the significantly faster 7900 XTX? – For the 4070 Ti? Well, this is a bit more complicated, but again, the 4080 16GB isn’t proving popular with consumers. A factor which has already seen that GPU fall notably below MSRP.

Overall, AMD has better options and Nvidia just feels too expensive. It seems though that Team Red clearly wants to fight over this $900 price point. It just seems unfortunate that they don’t realise that us consumers don’t!
