Cinebench R15
Cinebench is a widely respected benchmark for testing the performance of x86 CPUs. The program allows you to test single and multi-threaded performance as well as GPU performance by rendering with Open GL. Download here.
In Cinebench we see single threaded performance similar to the FX 8350 which we would expect given the Turbo behaviour of the FX 8370E under single-threaded loads. When we pile the Cinebench load onto all the cores we find the FX 8370E slips back quite a bit.
Handbrake
HandBrake is a tool for converting video from nearly any format to a selection of modern, widely supported codecs. Download here.
Handbrake is an intensive multi-threaded benchmark so it shows a similar story to Cinebench: the FX 8370E slips behind due to clock management that takes place to maintain the 95W TDP. Performance is still competitive with the FX 8350.
WPrime
wPrime is a leading multithreaded benchmark for x86 processors that tests your processor performance by calculating square roots with a recursive call of Newton’s method for estimating functions. wPrime is a free utility that is available for download here.
The extended nature of the WPrime benchmark means the FX 8370E falls significantly behind the FX 8350. The benchmark is so intensive that the FX 8370E drops back to 3.3GHz as soon as the benchmark starts.
