AMD Gains Nearly 6% Market Share in Desktop CPUs in Q3 of This Year

AMD has managed to overtake Intel in revenue in the data center market, exceeding $3.5 billion. But AMD’s momentum doesn’t stop there — the company continues to make strides in other areas, particularly in the desktop PC market. During the third quarter of this year, AMD achieved a 28.7% market share, marking a significant 5.7-point increase over the previous quarter. This growth has come at the expense of Intel, whose share continues to shrink.

AMD’s Progress Across Segments

Specifically, in this third quarter, AMD has achieved 28.7% in the desktop market, while Intel, despite its decline, still holds 71.3%. In the laptop market, AMD has also gained ground, reaching a 22.3% share, while Intel’s share dropped to 77.7%. When it comes to servers, AMD’s market share has risen to 24.2%, compared to Intel’s 75.8%. It is important to note that these figures focus on the x86 architecture, excluding sales of ARM-based processors.

Despite AMD’s steady rise across nearly all market segments, Intel still retains a commanding lead, particularly in total market share. However, AMD is gradually closing the gap, capitalizing on some of Intel’s missteps and steadily turning the sales charts in its favor.
