AMD has released their official statement surrounding the issues of Ryzen 7000 Series chips burning.
Lately, we have seen issues surrounding the AMD Ryzen 7000 X3D series burning up. This issue has supposedly been pinpointed to be down to the chips pulling too much voltage from the AMD EXPO overclocking profiles and now an official statement has been made by AMD. Gavin Bonshor of AnandTech reached out to AMD and they said the following:
“We are aware of a limited number of reports online claiming that excess voltage while overclocking may have damaged the motherboard socket and pin pads. We are actively investigating the situation and are working with our ODM partners to ensure voltages applied to Ryzen 7000X3D CPUs via motherboard BIOS settings are within product specifications. Anyone whose CPU may have been impacted by this issue should contact AMD customer support.”

AMD has not confirmed whether the suspected voltage issue is the actual problem but we now know that they are actively working with motherboard manufacturers to come to a resolution and push BIOS updates. For now, if you have an X3D chip avoid overclocking, make sure your bios is updated and pray that your £400+ motherboard and CPU don’t blow themselves up.
