AMD Hits 30% CPU Market Share in Steam Hardware Survey

For many months now, AMD has slowly but surely been knocking on Intel’s door in terms of grabbing more and more CPU market share away from the Blue Team. While the overall desktop market share has certainly been encouraging for AMD, however, in regards to gaming, while progress has been made, it’s undoubtedly been a little slower than they’d have probably liked. – Following the release of the latest Steam Hardware Survey figures, however, while it might have taken a while, Team Red has finally hit a 30% CPU market share on the platform!
AMD Hits 30% CPU Market Share on Steam
Despite being exceptionally close in the last updated figures, AMD remained below that magical milestone with a 29.48% CPU market share. Following an increase of 0.65% over the last quarter, however, they have finally managed to not only hit it but also get a little wiggle room in on the action with 30.13%
Admittedly, Intel’s gaming platform dominance is still clearly visible here. On the other hand, however, it would also indicate that the Rocket Lake-S releases earlier this year didn’t do much to sway users away from the previously launched Ryzen 5000 series.
What Do We Think?
While ‘modern’ CPU supplies for both Intel and AMD remain pathetically low, this news will undoubtedly be taken as a huge positive by Team Red’s management. However, it’s hard for the average consumer to argue with the ‘bang for buck’ Ryzen comparatively provides. Will this change with the release of Alder Lake-S later this year though? While certainly possible, we anticipate that Intels platform will be a very costly upgrade. As such, AMD might still be able to grab another couple of percentages before the year is out!
