Yesterday was a relatively disappointing launch for AMD’s highly anticipated Bulldozer platform. It was generally poorly recieved in reviews and as a result will probably be relatively unsuccessful in terms of sales. It’s really times like this when AMD needs to keep making those Llano sales in the budget market where it performs by far the best. Unfortunately for AMD it is having major supply issues when it comes to its Llano APUs. Analysts are claiming AMD will not be able to fix the Llano supply issue before Trinity arrives, but yet again this leaves AMD relying on a future release and look what happened with Bulldozer when it did this.
The core problem is that particularly highly demanded APU pieces are out of stock and cannot be produced anywhere near fast enough to meet demand. The most demanded Llano chips which are those quad core parts with turbo mode and running of 65W are not available. Only the faster clocked quad core 100W APUs or the 65W triple core APUs are available right now. The stock issue is with retailers so there could be one of two explanations for the shortage; AMD has run out of stock or AMD has signed a very large OEM contract and diverted stock towards that instead. Whatever the situation is, yet again AMD consumers are being let down by stock issues.
