Diablo 3 had over two million pre-orders, a record for Blizzard Entertainment.
The PC game launces today amid huge interest from players – so much so that servers are at capacity and thousands are unable to log in.
Blizzard’s eye-watering pre-order figure takes into account units pre-ordered as part of the World of Warcraft Annual Pass promotion, as well as retail and digital pre-orders.
Diablo 3 is now available in shops in the US, Canada, Europe, South Korea, Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau. It’s available digitally in all of the above territories, and in Mexico, Argentina, Chile and Brazil.
There were over 8000 midnight launches across the world last night, including our own at HMV’s flagship Oxford Street store. A video of the event, which showcases host Iain Lee’s talents, is below. From Blizzard were lead technical artist Julian Love and senior world designer Leonard Boyarsky, who answered fan questions and signed swag. Also, some pictures of people dressed up as wizards.
