AMD Launches Ryzen 7 8745H Without AI Processor

AMD has launched (thanks Wccftech) its new Ryzen 7 8745H APU, a part of the Hawk Point series, in China. This new APU, based on the Zen 4 architecture, features an 8-core CPU and RDNA 3 integrated graphics, but notably lacks an AI processor (NPU).

The Ryzen 7 8745H boasts 8 Zen 4 cores and 16 threads, along with 16MB of L3 cache and 8MB of L2 cache. The APU’s CPU clock speed reaches up to 4.9 GHz, which is slightly lower than the Ryzen 7 8845HS’s 5.1 GHz boost clock. Additionally, the integrated Radeon 780M iGPU includes 12 compute units running at 2.6 GHz, 100 MHz lower than its predecessor.

No AI Acceleration

One significant change is the absence of the NPU in the Ryzen 7 8745H. This omission results in lower total operations per second (TOPS), reducing the APU’s overall processing capabilities compared to models with integrated AI processors. This move is likely aimed at reducing costs and catering to users who do not require AI acceleration.

Lenovo has already listed the new Ryzen 7 8745H in its IdeaPad Pro 14, priced at 5499 RMB ($758). This model comes with 24GB of memory and 1TB of storage, making it an attractive option for mainstream markets. The slight reduction in clock speeds and the lack of an NPU are expected to make these laptops more affordable.
