The AMD Radeon RX 480 has been a big hit so far, and while it has had some launch issues with the PCI-E power draw, although few bits of hardware launch these days without some kind of hiccup, it looks like all those issues are now resolved. So what’s next from AMD? We already know that AMD does things differently to Nvidia, launching the low-end first, then working up to the high-end hardware. Now the rumour mill is grinding about the RX 490, the mighty dual-GPU Polaris powered 4K monster.
It looks like AMD “accidentally” listed the RX 490 on their website, which isn’t an uncommon “mistake” these days by manufacturers, and it’s a fun way to get the internet worked up and excited before a real reveal. Hope are that this card will the one that can go head to head with the Nvidia GTX 1080, and we really hope this is true, because competition between AMD and Nvidia is always a sure win for consumers, especially if it sparks a price war.
To add more fuel, the new GPU is believed to have cropped up on a shipping manifest as the C99, which keeps in theme with the test board naming system we’ve seen from previous AMD GPUs, telling us this is the 490 card, and another key factor being that it is about twice the price of the RX480; double the GPU for double the price, makes sense!
