AMD Mainstream Vega 11 May Arrive in Late 2017

During their Computex event, AMD finally revealed their launch date for Vega 10. After an arduous wait, it appears that AMD will release their higher end offerings at last. Vega 10 however, is just the first GPU using the new Vega architecture. Below Vega 10, AMD may release the rumoured mainstream Vega 11. Vega 11 may address the gap between Vega 10 and the RX 580 in the current lineup.

According to the latest report, AMD will follow up on Vega 10 will be Vega 11 in late 2017. As a more mainstream offering, HBM2 likely won’t be in the works but it might be possible. Beyond that, we also have many of the new Vega features like the revamped architecture, Next-Gen Compute Unit, upgraded hardware acceleration, and the High Bandwidth Cache Controller. There are also various other minor tweaks and new technology additions as well.

The real question that needs answer is where Vega 11 will sit in relation to Polaris 20. Vega 10 will offer up to 4,096 shaders with HBM2, with at least one cut down version. Polaris 20 features 2,304 shaders with GDDR5. Vega 11 has one option to squeeze in between Vega 10 and Polaris 20 at about 3,072 to 2,560 shaders. The other option would be to supplant Polaris 20 and fit in the sub 2,560 shader market. Either way, it looks like we may still have a wait ahead of us until Vega 11 arrives.
