Reports on Asian media websites are surfacing which suggest AMD will be making two different types of PCB available. The cost effective PCB has been designed by AMD’s engineers and some of the first batches are expected to be based off this PCB design. The reason for this is AMD wants to be able to reduce prices but at the same time have high quality so it has a PCB for reducing prices which is this cost effective PCB and then another one which is for the more expensive HD 7900 series cards.
AMD is readying the tried and trusted tactic of being cheaper than opposition and is more than ready for Nvidia’s Kepler GF 104 cards to bring the gauntlet. The cost effective PCB has everything the Tahiti GPUs will need including two 8 pin power connectors and an analogue 8+2 phase VRM driven by a cost-effective CHIL controller. The display outputs from this PCB will be two DVI, and one each of HDMI and full-size DisplayPort. Add-in board partners can still use a single DVI connector, and keep their cards single-slot capable. Room for 12 GDDR5 chips are right where they should be.
