AMD Officially Launches Wraith and 95W Stock CPU Cooler

After debuting their new Wraith CPU cooler to the public back at CES last month, AMD has finally launched their new stock cooler. Based off a whole new design, the new stock cooler is reportedly  90% quieter than the previous solution. This is due to the 34 percent more airflow and 24 percent higher surface area as well a new thicker fan with an LED shroud. The new cooler will be shipping with the recently launched FX 8370 CPU only as it is a 125W solution.

In addition to the Wraith, AMD is also introducing new stock CPU cooler for their 95W products as well. Unfortunately, this cooler suffers from a bland title, being dubbed the “AMD 95W Thermal Solution” and ships with FM2 chips only for now. This is the first time we have seen this new cooler and it looks to be a new design as well, with only 2 heatpipes instead of the 4 found in the Wraith. The fan is also shroudless and thinner and comes in AMD red. It will ship with most of the higher end APU/Athlon chips, chips that were prone to throttling or noisy operation at times with the previous stock cooler.

It is nice to see AMD start addressing more of the less prominent aspects of their offerings. While the coolers might not always impact performance, they do shape consumer perceptions, especially if they are overly hot or noisy. Launching the new coolers now speaks to the confidence AMD has in Zen as otherwise, why spend money on making a new cooler?
