When a new CPU launches from Intel or AMD, one of the first to know about the specifics of the new chip are the motherboard vendors. Due to the highly integrated nature of CPUs, chipsets, and motherboards, these partners are on board for day one. From this inside knowledge, they can try to predict market demand and plan their production accordingly. In a recent report just out, AMD’s motherboard vendors have seen Ryzen and it is good.
According to the new report, AMD’s motherboard partners have been impressed by the new CPU. In particular, they are optimistic about the high price to performance ratio. Due to this new optimism, the motherboard vendors are being more aggressive than usual with their orders. In fact, they expect that Ryzen alone will bring AMD’s processor marketshare up. Since the motherboard vendors do have insider information on both Intel and AMD, the increased orders suggest that there is much to be optimistic about Zen.
Ryzen is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2017 with an official release in February and mass market shipments in March. Based off of the new Zen architecture and 14nm process, the new CPU will offer 8 cores and 16 threads with a 3.4 GHz+ stock clock speed. The new Zen lineup will be supported on a variety of motherboards running the high-end X370, mid-range B350, and entry-level A320 chipsets.
