Packaging
As you all most likely know, you can generally buy processors in two forms. The first being a retail version which comes with the 3 year warranty, fancy box, CPU cooler and warranty guide. Simply put, it’s everything that someone could want (or need) to get going.
For the more enthusiast user, who has NO intention of using a stock CPU cooler and wants to save a bit of money, we have the OEM version which is what we’re looking at today.
We don’t normally receive retail versions, because our samples are presented to us before the official launch. This can sometimes mean that the boxes aren’t ready yet or another multitude of reasons.
So what do we get? We purely get a processor in some kind of protective packaging. Over the period that we’ve worked with AMD, we’ve found it’s placed into a green CPU box with foam packaging to protect it.
You may find that when you come to purchasing an OEM CPU, the packaging could be all different types, but we can use our little green boxes as a reference point.
