AMD PRO Zen CPU and APU Roadmap Leaked

Over the past couple of weeks, AMD has been showing off Zen to the word. Using the new x86 architecture, the new design is reportedly set to offer 40%+ IPC compared to current designs and utilize the new 14nm FinFET node. According to the latest set of leaked slides, it looks like AMD will be on track for a release in late 2016 stretching to early 2017. One important clarification is that the roadmaps deal with AMD PRO chips which are the enterprise variant.

For the desktop platform, Bristol Ridge with Excavator CPU cores and GCN iGPU is set to arrive in the 2016-2017 timeframe. Zen will follow with the CPU only Summit Ridge and Raven Ridge APU which adds on GCN 4.0 in 2017. All three platforms will use the new Promontory chipset and AM4 socket. Given the extra validation time for AMD PRO products, we can likely expect a consumer release according to plan imminently for Bristol Ridge and late 2016/early 2017 for Summit Ridge and Raven Ridge.

On the mobile side, we have Bristol Ridge and Stoney Ridge on FP4 set to arrive late 2016 to early 2017. Raven Ridge will follow sometime in 2017 with Zen and likely GCN 4.0. Given the validation period required for AMD PRO, I suspect we’ll see consumer products arrive about 3 to 6 months beforehand, placing consumer Zen no more than a year away. With a staged rollout, I wouldn’t be surprised if Zen makes the pre-holiday season. Hopefully, AMD won’t run into any delays or supply issues.
