AMD Pushes For VR iCafes in China

AMD

AMD has been a leading proponent of VR technology and engineered inventive solutions to try and make it more accessible to a wider audience. This includes higher performing mainstream graphics solutions which are certified for VR and an established VR supply chain. Not only that, the company’s LiquidVR helps to simplify VR content creation and in turn, encourage developers to create VR projects. According to the Taiwanese technology journal DigiTimes, AMD’s latest endeavour is to push the idea of VR internet cafes in China. This is a noble aim and ensures a huge number of people can see why VR technology provides such an enthralling experience. Additionally, VR equipment is quite expensive and out of the reach of most consumers. Therefore, the ability to access it in a public place without spending a huge sum of money is a pretty neat idea.

Given the possible growth in the Chinese market for AMD’s graphics solutions such as the RX 480 which are VR ready, it seems a good move to try to actively push a high rate of VR adoption. Personally, I’d like to see this happen in western markets too and prevent VR from being an expensive pursuit for a niche crowd.
