Game developers have an incredibly stressful job trying to meet deadlines and can encounter some difficult situations when dealing with passionate members of the public. Recently, Titanfall 2’s producer received a huge backlash from Xbox fans after posting an image of Titanfall 2’s game disk on the PlayStation 4. It’s important to remember that Titanfall’s roots began as an Xbox One exclusive and displaying the PlayStation 4 version clearly riled up a section of Xbox One fanboys. Unbelievably, many of these sent ridiculous Tweets to Titanfall 2’s producer claiming the studio was biased towards Sony and threatening to boycott the game:

Perhaps the most glaring example of stupidity reads:
“Thanks. Just to let you know, I’m cancelling because a Titanfall Dev is marketing PS4 on Twitter while MS has marking rights to the game. That’s not right.”
Fanboyism is the bane of anyone who works in public life, whether it be the technology industry or gaming. The notion that people define their self-value by blindly supporting a company is madness and I cannot understand this kind of mentality. These kinds of individuals paint the gaming industry in a bad light and make the community more hostile. They need to wake up and realise that no company is perfect, they all make mistakes and their goal is to make money, not be your ally. In an ideal world, I’d love to see fanboyism disappear and people to have a more balanced discourse. However, it seems people are attracted to drama and voicing their hatred online without any regret.
Cancelling a pre-order is NOT a big deal. THREATENING voice actors and reviewers, signing petitions, and whining over 900p parity resolutions IS, AND all of that was brought to you by the SONY fanboys…I wonder if you wrote a passionate article about that..:)
yeah, for some reason, gamers have become very whiny these past few years. I know this is a vocal minority…but it gives a bad image and reputation to the other gamers. I mean, I don’t even mention I’m a gamer anymore when I go on dates lol. I am too afraid the girl is going to picture me in my basement eating chips, drinking mountain dew and playing WoW..and trolling.
You will be surprised how many girls are enjoying gaming these days. It is a hobby for fun, but some take it very serious. You should not feel afraid to mention your hobby due to the gaming community having some bad apples. In fact, they are already idetified as the Sony fanboys..:)
A few years back, I was not attracted to gaming at all until I met my ExBoyfriend who loved it. I started playing some old 360 and PS3 games since the XB1 and PS4 were not out yet. Mass effect 1 and fallout New Vegas were among the first titles I enjoyed. Gaming is great if we enjoy it for what it is.
As for trolling, well it is easy to identify trolls since they never make sense in their rants, but let’s not forget that comment sections are used by Marketing departments to understand how a product is being perceived. At the same time it adds to the entertainment when exchanging opinions.
I guess you are right. It’s all a question of finding the person that will also enjoy that hobby. I take it you’re more of a RPG person? And yeah, comment section is where the laughing is at 😛
RPGs all the way, but i am starting to enjoy other genres like shooters and racing.
I’m an RPG person too. I used to like shooters, but as I grew older I realized they are all the same to me. Mindless shooting just didn’t cut it anymore. Though Battlefield 1 looks exciting, I stay away from multiplayer shooters. Too many youngsters that have lots of time to practice lol. Which shooters do you play?
The ones I played a little bit was overwatch, halo 5, and some third person like the division which I ignored for a long time due to the server problems on release date.
I have to agree with you though, I am not much into MP shooters since I am not very good at them.
I cannot wait for Gears 4, Mafia 3, and Skyrim remastered.
Also looking forward to those. I still remember playing Mafia 1 back in the day….that makes me feel old lol 🙁 It’s going to be tough going back to skyrim after The Witcher 3. But I also want to try that and add 100 mods to it. There are too many games..can’t play them all.
