After less than 24-hours since its launch, a user from the TechPowerUp forums called TonybonJoby has shown that he has successfully flashed a previous generation AMD Radeon RX 480 graphics card with a Sapphire RX 580 BIOS. He used an XFX RX 480 8GB graphics card and used the ATIFlash tool to install the Sapphire.RX580.8192.170320.rom VBIOS which is for the top-end NITRO+ Limited Edition card. The XFX RX 480 8GB graphics card he used has a dual-BIOS switch option, so he was confident in flashing one of them into the RX 580 since he can just switch back safely into the backup version if it failed.
The user noted that with the original RX 480 BIOS, he was unable to set the core clock higher than 1350 MHz but with the Sapphire NITRO+ RX 580 BIOS installed, his GPU clock was running at a much higher 1411MHz by default. He has since tested it with Witcher 3 and running several benchmarks, so far showing a very stable run. One thing to note, is that Tonybonjoby is using Windows 8.1 and had to manually install the drivers via the Windows Device manager for his video card since AMD apparently has only released the latest drivers so far for Windows 10.
For those who want to try it out themselves, here are the links on TechPowerUp of the files he used. Only the RX 480 8GB video cards can be flashed with the RX 580 8GB BIOS:
