Overview

The AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT Graphics is off to a great start, and while we know that Nvidia are already doing great things with their RTX 3000 series, their launch likely wasn’t as smooth as it could have been. Unfortunately, we expect similar issues to plague AMD too, but hey, it’s 2020, so you gotta expect things to go wrong really, it’s the new normal.

Hopefully AMD can keep the stock ratios right and keep the scalpers to a minimum, but it’s a near-impossible task in many regards. The key factor, however, is that if AMD has stock and Nvidia don’t… well, that can quickly turn into a big victory for the red team.

Performance

When it comes to performance, we know we can’t tell you much. The AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT graphics card is powered by the latest RDNA 2 architecture. That features 72 Compute Units, 128 MB Infinity Cache, and a whopping 16GB of GDDR6 memory.

AMD themselves say the 6800 XT “is engineered to deliver ultra-high frame rates and serious 4K resolution gaming.” That’s a big claim to make. The card has 4608 stream processors with a “Game Frequency” of up to 2015 MHz. Anyone that can do the core to frequency maths knows that there’s little chance of this card being slow.

“Game Frequency is the expected GPU clock when running typical gaming applications, set to typical TGP (Total Graphics Power). Actual individual game clock results may vary. GD-147” – AMD

With AMD powering both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles and offering 4K gaming performance from a “humble” SOC configuration, I’m really eager to see what they can do with a dedicated GPU, and I’m sure you all are too. So, sit tight, we’ll get back to benchmarking, and we’ll have a review ready for you VERY soon.
