There has been a lot of talk about the AMD RX Vega cards that are due to be announced officially at SIGGRAPH. The latest news to hit the scene is the naming of the cards. The RX Vega XT and XTX are now going to be called Vega 64 and the XL will be known as the Vega 56.
The Apple iMac actually houses Vega 64 and 56 GPU’s already. These however should not to be mistaken for being the same cards. The ‘RX’ Vega graphics cards are designed for the PC market featuring much higher specifications and a more advanced architecture. The similarities simply end at 56 and 64.
Fortunately, from what we have seen there will be no other changes other than the name. However, the 64 variants will be announced at SIGGRAPH in 3 days and the 56 later in September. The 56 will only be available from AIB partners. The TDP of the Liquid Cooled variant will feature as expected, a higher TDP than the air cooled version and more details will be revealed as they transpire.
Further details on pricing is a tricky subject as there are multiple sources claiming multiple prices. Yesterday we wrote how the price is rumoured to be around $850, but it’s not clear what variant this would be. Then today we reported that the starting price from Sapphire would be $700. I guess, we will simply have to wait.
