When AMD promised that they would fix their graphics driver game, no one thought they were going to be this dedicated. In an unprecedented move, AMD has released yet another driver for the month of November. Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.11.5 is the fifth release we’ve gotten and it brings some more fixes and support for new titles. Chief among them is optimizations for the new Ubisoft Watch Dogs 2.
In addition to that, the rest of the fixes and additions focus on CrossFire. First, we have a new CrossFire profile for Dishonored 2 under DX11. Both The Division and Battlefield 1 are also getting fixes for flickering when CrossFire is enabled. With all of the issues that Crossfire and SLI are experiencing, DX12 multi-adapter support can’t come soon enough.
The list of known issues also has a few additions as well. On top of the list from last month, we also have some new issues specific to the new driver. Ironically, despite adding int he Dishonored 2 CrossFire profile, users cannot access that feature just yet on all systems. Specifically, Windows 7 systems currently have CrossFire disabled for that title. Given that this drive release is mean to add support, I suspect AMD did not have the time or the resources to implement the feature along with the work Watch Dogs 2 and chose to just go with Windows 10 and 8.1 support for now. Hopefully, this won’t be a sign of waning support for the OS as a substantial portion of gamers are still using Windows 7.
Lastly, Watch Dogs 2 may experience flickering or crashes when using CrossFire with 2 RX 480s. This issue is perhaps understandable but speaks again to either a lack of resources or time to fully prepare the driver for launch day. I suspect this will get fixed shortly with the next release with a new CrossFire profile for the game. You can find the full release notes and download links here.
