Radeon Software 18.2.1 Beta Adds Final Fantasy 12 Support
For the last couple of years, AMD has been killing it with the drivers. After a few dark years, the Radeon Technologies Group has been on the ball with their updates. We’ve also gotten some nice annual feature updates as well. Following up on their January Alpha and Beta release, we have the new February Radeon Software Adrenalin Edition 18.2.1 Beta drivers. This is coming just a couple of days into the new month so there is more to come for sure.
The new update primarily focuses on new game support for Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age. AMD has been doing a lot of good work with updates for new AAA and major title releases. In addition to the new support, AMD is putting in a good number of fixes. Radeon FreeSync gets a bug fix for stuttering in fullscreen and a fix when operating with Samsung CF791 displays. Radeon Chill and Overlay get fixes with the Vulkan API as well. Finally, both Need for Speed Payback and Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 3 V Generation have corruption and colour fixes.
AMD Still Working Through Adrenalin Edition Bugs
For know issues, there a few old ones as well as new ones due to Adrenalin. FreeSync is still somewhat troublesome with multi-display and Chrome video playback. The new Overlay is also having issues with stability and the new Enhanced Sync feature is still flickery. Moreover, AMD is still working on the compute issues which is a trend for several drivers. Lastly, World of Final Fantasy is missing water textures sometimes.
Overall, AMD appears to be making good progress with their drivers. It is good to see quick and fast support for new games but also bug fixes as well. Given the early release in February, we can expect 18.2.2 sometime later this month. We are also missing out on WHQL drivers as well so they should come soon. AMD has promised between 6 to 8 WHQL releases a year so we are due for one real soon. You can find the full release notes and download links here.
