Every couple of weeks, AMD releases a new set of Radeon GPU drivers. Each release comes with a few minor upgrades and bug fixes in most cases. A new set of Radeon Crimson Edition drivers get released once a year around December. Some details have been leaked ahead of this years launch. According to the leak, the new release is Radeon ReLive Redux and it comes with an on-screen display.
The first year AMD revamped their Catalyst drivers was Omega in 2014. AMD has released the Crimson Edition, Crimson ReLive and now ReLive Redux. Even with Raja Koduri gone, Radeon Technologies Group is chugging along. Keeping with his legacy, the latest release will likely be a major one. The headline feature is a performance OSD option. Bundled with Radeon ReLive, it offers polling for CPU, GPU, FPS, Utilization, RAM and VRAM.
We have seen steadier releases as a result of RTG. Not a single month has gone by without a release. Even more important, major titles now see day one support in many cases. Due to the improved releases, AMD drivers have become increasingly attractive instead of a detriment. From the looks of it, Radeon ReLive Redux will keep this trend going. There are no doubt other major features as well.
If AMD keeps to their record, the new release will arrive as 17.12.1. The new release should come in the first two week of December. Furthermore, we may see a WHQL release in the second half of December as well. In addition, the new drivers should bring forward a lot of bug fixes. As a result of new features though, it may well introduce many bugs as well. It will be interesting to see what else AMD has in store.
