AMD Releases 16.8.2 Drivers For No Man’s Sky

After dropping their last driver release 16.8.1 no even a week ago, AMD has followed up with yet another Radeon Software Crimson Edition. Version 16.8.2 as the second hotfix driver for August brings a number of fixes and improvements over 16.8.1 as well as a larger list of  known issues that are being worked on. Unsurprisingly, the driver is not WHQL and is considered a beta hotfix.

As expected due to the short time period between 16.8.1 and 16.8.2, the list of fixes is quite short. Overwatch gets a stability fix while Freesync systems get a flickering fix. Of course, we have the usual Windows 10 driver issues that are getting patched as well.

The big headline features though are new support for 2 of the latest games. No Man’s Sky get official support from AMD while Paragon Open Beta is also getting the nod. Of course, that’s not to say the games won’t have their issues but things should be getting a lot better now.

Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.8.2 Highlights

Support for:

    • No Man’s Sky™
    • Paragon™ Open Beta

Fixed Issues

    • Overwatch™ may experience an intermittent application crash when browsing the hero gallery.
    • With a Freesync supported display and Freesync enabled, some users may experience flickering on desktop during system idle.
    • A small number of Windows 10 Anniversary Edition systems may experience install issues with secure boot enabled.

As for known issues, most of them revolve around the new APIs, the RX 400 series cards and AMD’s extra software suite. Given the close timing for these two drivers, I wouldn’t expect a major release anytime soon until later in the month. With the pace AMD is taking, it might not be that long till all the issues are fixed. Of course, there’ll always be new problems cropping up for them to fix.
