Unlike the last driver update which featured no real performance update, the version 11.11a performance driver of AMD’s Catalyst does in fact feature a couple of fixes and improvements for some of the most recent games.
The games we’re talking about are mainly The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, but also Batman: Arkham City, Rage and Battlefield 3.
Batman: Arkham City only sees improvements with DirectX 11 performance with single GPU configurations. Battlefield 3 has a slight fix as well resolving intermittent corruption seen when playing the game at specific camera angles.
Rage on the other hand sees a couple of additional improvements with the delivery of AMD CrossFireX performance scaling while a fix is provided which resolves a number of image / stability issues seen with the game.
The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim is the main target for fixes and improvements, starting off with performance improvements on single GPU configuration ranging from 2 to 7% while a fix resolves corruption seen when enabling Multi-Sample Anti-Aliasing on the AMD Radeon HD 6970 series. One more thing though, to resolve negative scaling and image quality issues seen with CrossFireX, the latter has been disabled while AMD works on a solution which will be made available as soon as it’s ready.
