AMD Releases Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.4.2

After releasing a massive slew of driver releases in February, March, and early April, things appeared to have slowed down at AMD. While it’s good for consistent and quick driver releases to come out with new fixes, they can be a bit tedious to constantly upgrade them. Today, AMD has released their latest update to their Radeon Crimson Software, with version 16.4.2, another hotfix for after 16.4.1 earlier in the month.

Unlike previous drivers that fixed a few issues, usually under 10 at a time, the latest update brings a full 14 fixes with it. Steam VR, Fallout 4 and Hitman have all seen a slew of Crossfire-related fixes, with stuttering and corruption being the most common. Most of the other fixes deal with fan speeds, clock speeds, and other software bugs when using Radeon Settings, the new control panel AMD introduced back in late 2015.

With these fixes, the number of known issues have gone down significantly and the remaining ones aren’t all that serious. It looks like it’s worth waiting an extra week or so for a new driver if it manages to bring a whole lot more fixes with it. Finally, support ahs been added for AMD Xconnect which is for external GPU enclosures and Elite Dangerous and Need for Speed saw new or updated Crossfire profiles. You can find the drivers here.
