AMD Releasing More Vega Cards Thanks to Miners

Thanks to cryptocurrency miners, GPU stocks are at an all-time low. As a result, of course, prices are soaring. Specifically, miners are snapping AMD graphics cards like they’re going out of fashion. If you’re in the market for a new Radeon, though, AMD’s got you covered. Aware of the current mining madness, AMD is launching its new Vega cards at a high volume. The company even revealed that the ongoing demand for GPUs is why it delayed Vega’s release. In other words, AMD wanted a healthy stock volume before the Vega launch. Hopefully, this means there’ll be plenty of cards to go around and that they won’t cost the Earth.

More Vega

In an interview with HardOCP, AMD executive Chris Hook said:

“Part of the reason it’s taken us a little longer to launch Vega – and I’ll be honest about that – is that we wanted to make sure we were launching with good volume.

Obviously we’ve got to compensate for things like coin-miners, they’re going to want to get their hands on these. We believe we’re launching with a volume that will ensure gamers can get their hands on them, and that’s what’s important to us.”

Too Much Vega?

More Vega cards is great news for consumers. But does AMD risk stocking too many Vega cards? The company doesn’t think so. In fact, AMD is banking on PC owners being ready for an upgrade. AMD told PCGamesN:

“We believe that there are many gamers out there who are in need of a system-wide upgrade. They want a VR-capable, high resolution, high refresh monitor, and a performant, enthusiast-class CPU and motherboard combination for a truly high-end gaming platform. This is the perfect time to leave those older 1080p monitors behind and join in on a buttery-smooth, ultrawide gaming journey, playing all the latest and future games in their fullest glory.”
