AMD Reveals New Polaris Radeon Pro GPUs

So far, all of the Polaris graphics cards we’ve seen released from AMD have been consumer focused. Now, at their new Capsaicin today, AMD has unveiled their new Polaris based Radeon Pro lineup. While there is the top-end Radeon Pro SSG with the option to add SSDs, there are also 3 additional Radeon Pro graphics cards. The new Radeon WX branding is meant to bring everything under the Radeon brand but with a new blue color scheme.

As expected, the 3 cards sort of mirror the RX releases with 2 Polaris 10 GPU and 1 Polaris 11 GPU. There is the top WX 7100 with 8GB of VRAM and 2048 GCN shaders while the slightly smaller WX 5100 features 1792 shaders with the same 8GB of GDDR5. The lowest level card is the WX 4100 which is actually larger than the RX 460 with 1024 shaders and 4GB of VRAM. The memory bus widths are the same as their Radeon counterparts at 256bits and 128bits respectively.

In terms of raw performance, the WX 7100 and WX 5100 feature about the same TFLOPs as earlier cards but the WX 4100 adds a new twist in. Using the Polaris 11 GPU, AMD has made an SFF slightly larger than mini ITX professional card that is half height to boot as well. With the gains from the new architectures and process nodes, it’s great to see professional cards reaping the benefits as well. The WX 5100, however, will be shorter but taller than the WX 4100.

The WX 7100 is meant for VR development as it is strong and fast enough to handle VR workloads, allowing developers to play back their content on their workstation. The WX 5100 is meant more for general professional usage while the WX 4100 is specifically tailored for smaller form factors and low power usage scenarios.

Rough pricing has also been revealed with the WX 4100 set to arrive around $500 while the Polaris 10 based models will be more expensive at just under $1000. Along with the new cards, AMD has also revamped their professional toolkit as well, adding even more value compared to current offerings. The new Radeon Pro lineup is expected to become available sometime in Q4 later this year.
