AMD is reportedly gearing up to release its Ryzen 7 9800X3D by the end of October 2024. This chip is set to feature the new “Zen 5” microarchitecture with 3D V-cache technology, boosting gaming performance significantly. The move appears to be a response to disappointing sales of the Ryzen 9000 series, and the looming release of Intel’s Core Ultra “Arrow Lake-S.”
AMD initially planned to launch the 9800X3D in early 2025. However, due to the underwhelming performance of the Ryzen 7 9700X, which failed to match the gaming performance of the older Ryzen 7 7800X3D, the company decided to push the release forward.
A recent report suggests that AMD has more in store for the Ryzen 9000 X3D series. Alongside the 9800X3D, AMD is also developing two high-end models: the Ryzen 9 9900X3D and the Ryzen 9 9950X3D. These chips are expected to hit the market in early 2025.
A Chinese leaker claims that these new processors will feature enhancements that set them apart from previous models. Speculation points to the possibility of both CPU core complexes (CCDs) being equipped with 3D V-cache. This design would target users seeking a balance of gaming performance and productivity.
While AMD has yet to confirm any of these details officially, the company’s decision to expedite the Ryzen 7 9800X3D release suggests it’s aiming to reclaim its competitive edge in the desktop CPU market.
