With just over a week to go until the RX 460 and RX 470 launch, we’ve just gotten our first leak of official slides. As expected the new Polaris 11 and Polaris 10 graphics cards fit with other leaks and official information we’ve seen so far. The slides also confirm that the RX 470 will arrive August 4th and the RX 460 on August 8th. Unfortunately, the launch slides do not confirm the price information which has been suggested as $179 for the RX 470 4GB and $99 for the RX 460 2GB models.
First off we have the RX 470 which is Polaris 10 with 32 CUs enabled for 2048 GCN 4.0 shaders, 128 TMUs, and 32 ROPs. The base clock is quite a bit lower than the RX 480 at 926 MHz but it does boost quite high to 1206 MHz for 4.9 TFLOPs of maximum performance. Memory comes in at 4GB of GDDR5 but there will be 8GB models. While we still have the same 256bit bus as the RX 480, the slower 1650 Mhz memory gives only 211 GB/s. TDP is also lower at 120W.
Next, we have the RX 460 which runs a cut-down version of Polaris 11 with 14 CUs enabled for 896 GCN 4.0 shaders, 48 TMUs, and 16 ROPs. The base clock comes in at 1090 Mhz base and 1200 MHz boost, offering up to 2.2 TFLOPs of performance. Coming in at 2GB or 4GB of GDDR5, the 128bit bus provides 112 GB/s of bandwidth. TDP is expected to be under 75W, making it possible for the PCIe power connector to be eliminated. The reference model also comes in a mini-ITC form factor which makes a lot of sense given the target segment.
With the RX 470 out, that may mean there will be more supply for Polaris 10 GPUs overall. The RX 480 has been facing low stock issues so hopefully, a new card with similar performance will help ease the demand. Hopefully, we’ll see custom cards arrive soon as well and hopefully with enough stock as well to handle the demand. What do you think about the leaked specifications for AMD’s upcoming Polaris GPUs?
