AMD RX 480 May Match R9 Nano Performance

Even though the RX 480 and Polaris 10 have been revealed some time ago, we still don’t know the true performance of these cards. Clock speed predictions have varied and the card has jumped from as low as R9 390 performance all the way up to GTX 980Ti levels. Today, a new leak is suggesting that the card will fall somewhere around the R9 Nano when it comes to synthetic performance.
The latest reports put the new Polaris 10 RX 480 right up with the R9 Nano in 3DMark FireStrike Ultra. This is decently ahead of the R9 390X and the GTX 980 but not quite to where the Fury currently sits and still a long way away from the GTX 980Ti. Of course, with a nice overclock, we could see the RX 480 pushing into GTX 980Ti territory but I wouldn’t expect that out of the box if this report is true.
This leak shows Polaris 10 in a much better light than earlier rumors indicated. That report indicated only just about R9 390X levels of performance which was a bit low in my mind. With newer titles and especially DX 12 games, I expect Polaris will surge ahead to surpass the Fury, especially once we get newer drivers. With 2 weeks to go, I’m hoping AMD will deliver on their promises. All we need now are RX 470 and 460 leaks!
